AHMAD NAHAS

Ahmad Nahas (he/him) is a human rights advocate and development professional whose work focuses on LGBTIQ+ rights, human rights monitoring, community engagement, policy advocacy, and strengthening cross-border solidarity between marginalised communities. Ahmad's multicultural experience informs an approach to human rights work that connects grassroots realities with regional and international advocacy.

Since 2021, Ahmad has held program leadership responsibilities with Inclusive Bangladesh and Dhaka Pride, supporting initiatives aimed at advancing the dignity, safety, visibility, and participation of LGBTIQ+ people in Bangladesh and across South Asia. His work has involved program development, community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, advocacy, research, and the creation of spaces through which marginalised and multicultural communities can contribute their experiences and perspectives to wider human rights discussions.

A significant part of Ahmad’s work has focused on strengthening community-led documentation of human rights violations. As Program Manager of Inclusive Bangladesh, he contributed to the development of the organisation’s human rights monitoring work and led the publication of its first Annual Human Rights Violations Report on LGBTIQ+ People in Bangladesh. The initiative helped consolidate community-generated evidence on discrimination, violence, exclusion, and other rights concerns affecting LGBTIQ+ people and supported the use of documented evidence in broader advocacy and stakeholder engagement.

Ahmad has also been engaged with regional LGBTIQ+ movements and leadership platforms. He was a candidate for the Youth Representative at the 2025 ILGA Asia Board election during the organisation’s Regional Conference in Nepal, reflecting his commitment to strengthening regional cooperation, community representation, and the participation of diverse voices within Asia’s LGBTIQ+ human rights movement.

His academic experience spans Western Sydney University (WSU), the University of New South Wales (UNSW), and the Australian National University (ANU). Through his academic engagement, Ahmad has also developed experience in parliamentary affairs, public policy, legislative research, and Australian democratic institutions, including focused engagement with the Australian Senate and parliamentary policy processes. This experience has strengthened his understanding of how research, evidence, legislative institutions, and civil society engagement intersect in the development of public policy.

Working across cultural and geographic contexts, Ahmad places particular emphasis on grassroots participation, strategic networking, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based advocacy. His work seeks to build connections between community organisations, advocates, researchers, policymakers, and international human rights networks while ensuring that people directly affected by discrimination have meaningful opportunities to contribute to the conversations and decisions that concern them.

As Program Manager of the Global Centre for Rights, Ahmad supports the development and implementation of the organisation’s human rights programs, research, partnerships, and advocacy initiatives. His approach is grounded in collaboration and the belief that sustainable human rights progress is strengthened when local experience, credible evidence, and international solidarity are brought together.
